“Bariatric Surgery Felt Like My Professional Home”: Meet Dr. Kudav

Apr 5 2022

“In high school biology, I was fascinated by anatomy and dissection labs,” Siddharth Kudav, MD, FASMBS, says. “Couple that with my habit of working with my hands to sketch, paint and sculpt, it felt natural to pursue a procedural medical specialty.”

We are so lucky that Dr. Kudav recently joined Bon Secours Surgical Weight Loss Center Harbour View.

“During my medical training, it was painfully clear to me how significant obesity’s impact was on the health and quality of life of my patients,” he adds. “I became interested in safely and effectively treating obesity, so bariatric surgery felt like my professional home.”

When asked about his decision to join our ministry, Dr. Kudav shares, “once I met the bariatric team and administration at Bon Secours, I saw a strong team that felt like a family.”

We are proud that the Bon Secours Surgical Weight Loss Program consists of the area’s most experienced surgical team known for quality outcomes. Also, it is an accredited program with the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). And finally, there is no program fee for patients who wish to enroll.

Dr. Kudav, who is fellowship-trained in bariatric and metabolic surgery, specializes in the treatment of severe obesity and metabolic disorders, such as diabetes, sleep apnea, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, PCOS and infertility. He is also involved in the surgical treatments for heartburn, acid reflux and certain hernias.

“It’s immensely rewarding to help people lose weight and achieve goals previously unobtainable due to their weight.”

While the patient and provider relationship can be filled with ups and downs, Dr. Kudav believes that “struggles pave the way for the greatest successes.” Also, he wants his patients to know that he is there to support them through the many challenges they may face while working to better their health.

For Dr. Kudav, treating chronic diseases, such as obesity, is a team effort. Each patient is the most important part of that team.

“I love partnering with people to improve the quality of their lives,” he says. “I also love cooperating with a team of people to improve lives and achieve the best outcomes possible!”

In his free time, Dr. Kudav enjoys spending quality time with his wife, children and friends. He also loves skiing, traveling anywhere he can experience the beauty of nature, consuming “Star Wars” content and playing video games.
