Meet Erika Wilson, director of performance improvement system nursing in our Hampton Roads market!
She has been working in health care for more than 20 years and has multiple health care roles, including LPN, certified professional coder and operations director.
“I began my work as an administrative director of physician services,” she recalls. “When I transitioned to my current role with the system nursing team, I was able to work on some projects that allowed me to spend time in facilities across the ministry and observe the work of our dedicated bedside nurses.”
This role helped emphasize Erika’s desire to help others.
“While my role allows me to provide support to the nurses at the bedside, it also reignited my passion for nursing and inspired me to return to school,” she says.
Inspired by her work and the leaders she looked up to, Erika decided to continue her education journey.
“I was fortunate to be surrounded with leaders, such as Veronica Scott-Fulton, CNO, and Jodi Pahl, CNO of workforce, outcomes and experience of care, who encourage continued education and the wonderful efforts that the ministry makes to invest in associates to help them realize their goals,” Erika explains.
Erika is no stranger to higher education, already completing a bachelor’s degree in health care administration and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). Now, thanks to the inspiration and encouragement she’s received from our leaders, Erika is pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) through Chamberlain University. She’s doing so by using our ministry’s education benefits.
At Bon Secours, we are proud to give all our team members access to education programs that are designed to empower career growth.
We offer up to 100 percent tuition-free education for priority clinical programs to help them pursue their health care callings and career.
So far, Erika’s experience with her online program has been solely positive.
“My MBA was obtained in an online program, so I do have some experience with this type of learning,” she explains. “And the support that is offered through the ministry has been helpful and provided reassurance that I am not alone in my pursuits.”
She continues, “Having worked in other organizations and attended other schools, I can say that the experience and support that I have had with Bon Secours has far surpassed my expectations. It truly is an exciting time to pursue a nursing degree as we have such phenomenal nursing leaders across the ministry who are true inspirations of the healing and compassionate ministry of Christ.”
