Paula Hunt, CPhT, has been a dedicated surgical biller in our Richmond market for about 10 years. However, she recently pursued and obtained her pharmacy technician certification, fulfilling a long-held aspiration.

“I like learning new things and being in a work environment where I can use my knowledge and experience,” Paula explains.

Previously a pharmacy technician, Paula had always wished to obtain her certification. She found the pharmacy technician program with MedCerts, using our ministry’s education benefits program.

At Bon Secours, we are proud to give all our team members access to education programs that are designed to empower career growth.

We offer up to 100 percent tuition-free education for priority clinical programs to help them pursue their health care callings and career.

Paula’s journey began when a friend suggested checking with our ministry for tuition assistance. Not only did she find the financial support she needed, but she also discovered an actual certification program being offered. This opportunity allowed her to advance her career and achieve a personal milestone.

“My experience was great,” Paula says. “The pharmacy technician program was very thorough in the materials they provided. My program was online and they provided ample opportunities for hands-on practice via video assignments. I learned a great deal during my externship and was able to successfully balance my current role along with the externship hours.”

For those considering starting a degree program but feeling uncertain, Paula offers straightforward advice: “Go for it!”

Her experience serves as an inspiring example of how pursuing further education and certification can lead to personal and professional growth.
