Meet Wendell Mahan, operations director of our Richmond medical group!

In his role, Wendell provides administrative oversight and direction to 11 primary care practices and one urgent care center. He focuses on practice growth, strategic objectives, provider and associate relationships, financial stewardship and daily operational activities as needed.

Wendell is also a veteran who served in the U.S. Navy as a boatswain’s mate. He was assigned to Special Boat Unit – 20, an East Coast Naval Special Warfare unit based at Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base in Little Creek, Va. and his main job was patrolling small coastal waterways as well as extraction and insertion of special operation teams/SEALS.

“Our saying was on time, on target and never quit. Nowadays, I’m slacking a little with the on time and on target, but the never quit is in full effect,” Wendell laughs.

He goes on to share that his military experience has prepared him to handle day-to-day challenges he faces in his current role with our ministry.

“I understand the importance of building inclusive communities, the power of being a team and how to lean on each other’s strengths to meet our objectives,” he says.

What Wendell enjoys most about his job with us is the faith-based relationships he’s built as well as the family-friendly environment.

“I experience acts of kindness and compassion daily,” he shares. “I have the pleasure of working with people who uphold our values of service, human dignity, integrity, compassion and stewardship. We have a unique team. Everyone has a different skillset and we lean on each other’s strengths. We operate as a family and we always have each other’s back. I am grateful for our friendship and the love we share for one another.”

Wendell adds, “I enjoy working with my teammates Julius Joyner, who served in the U.S. Army, and Aaron VanDall, who served in the U.S. Navy, and love it when we have an opportunity to share stories about our time in the military.”

Thank you to Wendell as well as all our other veteran team members for your service to our country. Read more stories about our veteran team members.
