As the longest tenured team member at Bon Secours Southampton Medical Center, Louise Scott has seen a lot of change at the facility during her time, including when the facility recently joined our Bon Secours ministry in 2020. Having held many roles within the food service department over the last 52 years, Louise describes herself as a “jack of all trades.”
“I feel like celebrating every day that I can get up and come to work. At my age we cannot be too choosey,” Louise says.
In her current role as nutrition service supervisor, Louise is responsible for making sure that dietary items ordered in the cold production area are accurate for the patient’s diet order. This ensures the patients don’t receive any foods they should not be eating. It’s an important job because if a patient does receive something that their body cannot tolerate, they could have a poor outcome.
“I am just happy to be able to come to work every day after being here for 52 years,” she shares. “I enjoy working with the other long-term team members as well as the teamwork that goes into being able to produce hundreds of meals every day. I also love knowing that I am positively contributing to the hospital and its function.”
Louise attributes her motivation to work at Southampton Medical Center for so long to the people she has had the opportunity to work with and help. She enjoys being around other people and talking to her department manager, as he makes her laugh every day. She loves the comradery with her fellow team members.
“I also take pride in being somewhat of a mentor to the new associates coming into the department, emphasizing that what we do every day is very important to the hospital and community,” Louise shares.
During her tenure at Southampton Medical Center, Louise has held many roles within the food service department including cold food prep, supervisor, working the tray line, the register, helping in the cafeteria and even cooking when called upon to do so. And when she’s finally ready to dive into retirement, Louise is looking forward to traveling as well as spending more time with her granddaughter and great grandchildren.
