Dustin Martin is lucky to be alive. After his COVID-19 diagnosis, he had two separate stays at Bon Secours St. Francis Downtown to get his ongoing symptoms under control. Now on the road to recovery, Dustin feels a responsibility to share his story and encourage others to stay as safe as possible during this pandemic. Read his firsthand thoughts below.
I can’t speak for anyone but myself on this, but my COVID-19 experience was nearly two weeks in the hospital hooked to oxygen, receiving multiple treatments and medicines just to get to where I could breathe better on my own. I am at home now resting, thankfully.
Please everyone, wear a mask in public at this time. It’s not hard. It’s not intrusive. Yes, you have the freedom not to wear one just like you have the freedom not to buckle up before driving down the highway. But which option is safer?
This virus took a hard toll on me. I’m someone who’s 32, healthy and has no prior conditions. It kept me down a good bit and I promise you don’t want it. You’re not immune to this and neither is anyone around you.
Thank you to everyone who reached out during this time. And especially, thank you to the nurses and doctors at Bon Secours who treated me incredibly. They got me back on my feet and able to go home.
Stay safe, everyone.
