Did you know that overdose due to opioid use disorder (OUD) has become one of the leading causes of death in the United States?

In 2020 alone, an estimated 2.7 million people in the United States experienced OUD in the past 12 months—including 2.3 million people with addiction to prescription opioids.

Opioids are a class of medications, including oxycodone, morphine and fentanyl – which can be prescribed to treat pain – as well as drugs like heroin. Opioids have a high potential for abuse as well as addiction and can cause fatal overdoses by causing a person to stop breathing. Additionally, many counterfeit pills and heroin now contain fentanyl, which is very potent and especially dangerous.

Our experts at Bon Secours can help you or your family member overcome opioid use disorder.

Our team wants to partner with you to begin treatment safely, securely and successfully, in a patient-centered and non-judgmental environment.

Bon Secours can help identify support programs and provide treatment for you or your loved one if you are experiencing:

  • A recent opioid overdose
  • A life crisis due to substance use disorder and addiction
  • Withdrawal symptoms and cravings for opioids

Our physicians in the emergency department at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center, Bon Secours Richmond Community Hospital and Bon Secours Southside Medical Center are credentialed to treat opioid use disorder, and to initiate treatment with suboxone.

Suboxone is a medication that treats opioid withdrawal symptoms, which often includes nausea, vomiting, sweating, goosebumps, yawning and body aches. It can also help people with opioid use disorder avoid the cravings that make you want to continue taking opioid medications or drugs. From there, they can help you find a good outpatient treatment program.

If you or a loved one is experiencing opioid use disorder, please ask us for help. Whatever your needs are, our care teams are committed to your safety, wellbeing and getting you the right care.
