At Bon Secours, our thousands of volunteers are called to serve — and they answer by making a positive difference in our communities and in the lives of our patients.

Volunteers can be found in nearly every department at Bon Secours. Wherever they serve, their presence is felt, and their service is invaluable. We welcome volunteers of all ages and backgrounds who are ready to give back and gain more than they expected.

Volunteer opportunities at Bon Secours

Bon Secours offers wonderful opportunities for community members to volunteer to assist the hospital in fulfilling its ministry of healing. Hospital volunteers are an important part of the day-to-day activities and complement the services provided by our associates.

Volunteering at Bon Secours provides a unique experience filled with fellowship, camaraderie and the satisfaction of providing good help to those in need. By volunteering with us, you will not only be working to help your community but will be joining the hospital family and making connections with patients and staff.

Susie Jeter, volunteer coordinator for our Greenville market, says, “Volunteering is a gift given with a heart of service to make a difference.  Whether working behind the scenes or interacting with patients, families and staff, volunteers are an invaluable part of our level of compassionate care. Every volunteer is dedicated to helping others and generously giving of their time and talents while sharing a commitment to be ‘good help to those in need.’ They make an impact every day!”

Volunteering needs vary by region and facility, but opportunities could include:

  • Transporting patients
  • Escorting patients and visitors
  • Comforting patients with therapy animals
  • Delivering flowers and mail to patients
  • Staffing the front desk
  • Working in the gift shop
  • Assisting with clerical duties and other projects
  • Veteran’s visitation
  • Performing or playing music

Volunteer requirements

A great volunteer is called to serve. Volunteers want to make a positive difference in the community and the lives of others. Our volunteers possess characteristics such as being helpful, adaptable, respectful and compassionate.

“We would love to have you be part of our ministry,” Susie says. “We are appreciative of however much time you can give. Our volunteers feel like they receive more of a gift than they give!”

We are looking for volunteers who:

  • Have an interest in health care and patient needs
  • Uphold our Mission, Values and Promise
  • Observe confidentiality
  • Commit to the assigned schedule (based on your availability and agreed upon by you and the program lead)

How to become a volunteer

Adult volunteers must successfully complete an application process that includes reference checks, background checks and an interview. This process promotes a positive and mutually beneficial volunteer experience for both the individual and the hospital. Volunteers are then scheduled to attend a hospital orientation.

Student volunteers (age 16 and older) must also successfully complete an application process, which includes reviewing immunization records, completing a high school faculty recommendation form and obtaining parental consent. An interview may follow, and student volunteers will attend a hospital orientation.

If you feel called to volunteer at a Bon Secours location, please complete an application at Bon Secours volunteer application. Join us in making a difference today!
