Bon Secours Community Works and Safe Streets Franklin Square recently celebrated a major milestone: six months without a shooting or homicide in their target area in West Baltimore.
Safe Streets Franklin Square, which launched in August 2019, is a part of the Safe Streets program that works to reduce the likelihood of shootings and homicides in areas that have a high crime rate. Bon Secours Community Works is one of 10 programs throughout the city of Baltimore that helps administer this evidence-based, violence reduction program.
In 2019, prior to the launch of Safe Streets Franklin Square, the target area had a total of nine shootings, four of which were fatal. In 2018, the area had 13 shootings, four of which were fatal. Thus, this current six-month milestone with no shootings is a huge accomplishment for the program and the community.
The milestone was celebrated at a community event featuring a night full of fun with free food, entertainment, games, and giveaways.

Bon Secours Community Works (BSCW) works to enrich the West Baltimore community with programs and services that contribute to long-term economic and social viability of neighborhoods.
