At Bon Secours, we understand that where you live, learn, work and play influences your health and quality of life.

Therefore, we are always looking for ways to address the health and well-being of our patients, communities and stakeholders by growing partnerships and providing services as well as supporting clinical care needs in innovative, impactful ways. This approach not only applies to our local communities, but to our larger, international community, too.

For more than two decades, our Richmond market has proudly supported World Pediatric Project, a Richmond-based nonprofit that provides critical pediatric medical services in the Caribbean and Latin America. They also drive programs to improve health care capacity abroad by addressing both prevention and treatment.

In 2022, we proudly treated the first World Pediatric Project patient at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital. Since that time, the nonprofit has facilitated care for a total of 80 children from 12 different countries through our partnership. To date, this includes care in orthopedics, general surgery, plastic surgery and craniofacial care, urology, ophthalmology and ENT.

Eliviannie (pictured above) from Belize has been a patient of World Pediatric Project since she was just 6 years old. Over that time, she has come from Belize to the United States for two surgeries through World Pediatric Project.

Most recently, the World Pediatric Project team had the privilege to work with Eliviannie and witness firsthand the capable and compassionate care she received at St. Mary’s Hospital. From pre-op consultations, procedures and post-op appointments, every one of our administrative, nurse and surgical team members they met were extremely knowledgeable, caring and careful to make Eliviannie and her mother feel comfortable and at ease.

“Our teams are honored to provide care to patients like Eliviannie,” Blair Bell, director of women’s and children’s service line, shares. “Building trusting health care relationships with these families who have traveled thousands of miles to seek medical attention here in the United States has been a wonderful opportunity. We are grateful for our partnership with World Pediatric Project and look forward to continuing to support their mission of healing children.”

”On behalf of all of us at World Pediatric Project, thank you to Bon Secours for your partnership through support of medical volunteer involvement, financial contributions and exemplary care of our pediatric patients,” Andrea Ahonen, senior vice president of marketing and development at World Pediatric Project, adds. “We value and very much appreciate your support and commitment to helping children live healthy, happy and productive lives.”
