Bon Secours is growing its footprint in Suffolk and Western Hampton Roads to help support the growing need for health care in the community.

A Certificate of Public Need (COPN) request was filed to increase bed capacity at Harbour View Hospital through the relocation of up to 36 acute care beds. The expansion, projected to be nearly 67,000 square feet, helps us meet the increased need for inpatient beds for those requiring medical, surgical, obstetrical and intensive care.

As part of the COPN process, Bon Secours is encouraging the community to share letters and comments of support for this expansion.

Community members who wish to share their experiences and support for this project are asked to fill out an online form, write a letter or send an email (see additional information below).

“Since 1999, when the Bon Secours Health Center at Harbour View was built, we have been committed to finding innovative ways of serving the growing health care needs of the Western Hampton Roads community,” says Kate Brinn, president, Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center and Bon Secours Harbour View Medical Campus. “This expansion will help us meet the growing demand for inpatient services and allow for more flexibility in patient placement. It will also bring much needed obstetrical services to the area and ensure that we are prepared to handle any potential surge in patient volume well into the future.”

In addition to adding up to 36 beds, Bon Secours also plans to relocate the Harbour View Emergency Department. Other additions include building a full kitchen and dining area, sterile processing, and a nursery and c-section room, as well as expanding other support services which may include waiting rooms and registration.

With this expansion work, Bon Secours will bring additional health care services closer to the patients who need them and provide a better inpatient experience to the Suffolk and Western Hampton Roads communities.
